Travel regulations
Travel reimbursements must meet all Indiana University travel requirements. Please note that no reimbursement can be provided for alcoholic drinks.
Selection criteria
Lecture series events must be free, open, and promoted to the public. We encourage organizations to propose speakers who represent a wide range of relevant expertise, including craftspeople, practitioners, and scholars, in addition to a wide range of approaches to historic preservation. In particular, we encourage lectures that further a people-centered approach to preservation that foregrounds the stories and experiences of those who have shaped and continue to shape the historic built environment.
Strong applications will feature an expert (or experts) in historic preservation addressing a topic relevant to an organization’s specific community, as well as a robust plan to promote the event to the public. Events may be held virtually or in person.
Event administration
Applications must be submitted more than sixteen weeks prior to the event. If the event is dependent upon this award, please submit your application as early as possible in your planning process. Requestors can expect a response from the committee within four weeks of submission.
Administration of approved awards, including the distribution of funds to speakers and organizations, will be coordinated by staff affiliated with the IU Committee on Historic Preservation.
Cornelius O’Brien Lecture Series funding must be acknowledged in promotional materials, event programs, and introductory remarks. Whenever possible, a member of the IU Committee on Historic Preservation will attend the event. Events are expected to comply with ADA regulations and/or disclose the ways in which the event may not be accessible in promotional materials.
Any significant changes to approved events, including speakers, topics, venue, or scheduling, must be submitted in writing at least two weeks in advance for approval by the committee.
Following the event, the organization will submit an event program and post-event form to report on promotion, attendance, and reception. This form will be provided upon confirmation of an approved award. Any recording of the event must be made available to the committee at this time.
